Full course description

OCDE Project GLAD® en español

California is immersed in the global economy; it also benefits from a diverse population of residents who speak the majority of languages heard on the planet. Based on four decades of research on students who speak a second language, language learners, this academy will address why Dual language programs have been found to be the most effective practice to provide access and equity for all language learners. OCDE Project GLAD® en español academy will provide professional learning dedicated to building academic language and literacy through content area instruction. Additionally, as part of our 12 hours asynchronous work attendees will explore dual language instructional strategies, which will strongly support language development, transference and biliteracy within a dual language setting. Attendees will delve into application in a biliterate environment where the target language is Spanish. This academy  will be conducted in both Spanish and English and will be highly engaging!

 What does this course support?

The Multilingual California Alliance Project (MCAP) grant aims to support professional learning opportunities for teachers and paraprofessionals across the state of California. Our focus is to support the implementation of the English Learner Roadmap Policy. We believe that multilingualism is the most effective option for the achievement of ELs across all content areas and for their preparation to participate effectively in the global workforce. We have chosen Canvas as one platform by which to deliver high quality professional learning which will strengthen the capacity of districts in dramatically accelerating the academic and multilingual opportunities and outcomes of English learners across California.

This reflective, self-paced digital professional learning provides school districts with innovative solutions for asynchronous professional growth. In this digital professional learning, TK-12 educators and administrators will access and be introduced to the California English Learner Roadmap. This course will provide resources, best practices, and guided support for educators and administrators as they move forward on their journey of implementing the California English Learner Roadmap Policy. Integrating these resources in instruction will support educators to improve and customize learning for all students, especially English learner students.
