The Teaching Permit for statutory Leave (TPSL) allows an employing agency to fill a position where the teacher of record is unable to teach due to a statutory leave (medical or otherwise) with a temporary teacher of record for the duration of the leave.

OCDE level 1 TPSL Training is a 45-hour, 10 module online course that provides a foundational understanding of the essentials of classroom teaching. Substitute teachers will gain an understanding of the basics of classroom teaching. They will learn teaching strategies, lesson planning, school policies, and state education law. By sucessfully completing this course, substitutes will earn a temporaty permit to teach for statutory leave in california.
